Invisalign is a modern tooth-straightening system using a series of clear, custom-made aligners. These aligners (similar to a retainer) are worn over your top and bottom teeth for at least 22 hours a day. Slowly but surely, these aligners will gently move your teeth into their ideal position. Aligners are comfortable, easy to remove, and are virtually invisible.
Invisalign utilizes attachments on the teeth to aid in the movement of the teeth. Attachments are tiny tooth-colored “bumps” that are bonded to the teeth using dental composites. They will be placed at precise locations to allow the aligners to grip the teeth as they are guiding them to their new locations.
For some patients, interproximal reduction (IPR) is needed to help with tooth movement. IPR is a process involving polishing the surfaces in between the teeth so that the teeth can slide into a better position.
Why Invisalign vs Smile Direct Club?
Invisalign treatment is done under the direct supervision of a dentist. In our office, Invisalign patients have appointments with the dentist to closely monitor tooth movement, progress of treatment, and overall oral health.
Unlike other aligner systems, Invisalign utilizes features that speed treatment time and move teeth in a more controlled manner.
In our opinion, Smile Direct Club can be dangerous. Without the close supervision of a dentist, you can damage your teeth. This can lead to TMJ pain, bite problems, and gum disease. It’s not worth the risk. Invisalign is much safer and controlled choice.
Traditional braces consist of metal brackets and wires. Patients in traditional braces can expect longer treatment time. There are food restrictions while in treatment with braces as brackets, band, and wires can catch on foods. It can also be much more difficult to keep teeth clean and there is greater chance of gum inflammation and tooth decay.
Age ranges:
We are currently treating teens and adults with Invisalign in our office. Children as young as 6 years old can do Invisalign as well, but we prefer younger children to be monitored by an Orthodontist and we know some wonderful Orthodontists in town.
We’ll examine your teeth and let you know whether or not you’re a good candidate. Learn what to expect and how much the treatment will cost. We have payment plans available, including CARE CREDIT and IN-HOUSE and we will contact your insurance for coverage details.
Your aligners will be perfectly customized to your mouth. We’ll use our high technology, called ITERO to scan and take 3D images of your mouth and teeth and create your aligners. That’s right, it’s that simple and only takes less than 10 minutes. This advanced technology also creates a rendering of what your teeth will look like after the treatment.
Most Invisalign treatments will take 6 to 24 months, depending on your needs. Our amazing TEAM will be here for you every step of the way, so don’t worry! You’ll meet with us on a regular basis so we can carefully track progress, ensure your dental health, and hand you sets of new aligners every 2-3 weeks.
